Myths about Bullying 1

Info in this section comes from Tim Field's site, Bully Online

"It's best to ignore it"
Never ignore bullying, it makes it worse. When people say ignore it what they really mean is don't hit back and don't respond. Bullying can't be ignored because it's so in your face. Keep a record of events in a diary and save any e-mails, text messages or other nasty stuff. Do your research, and get your parents and teachers involved. U can beat bullying harder than it can beat u.

"Just Stand up for yourself"
When people say "stand up for yourself", they rarely tell u how. U want to know what they mean, and how they think it's going to help. Most important is to appear confident - confidence will make any bully think twice, and it's not just about being able to hit people. Bullies try to take confidence away - don't let them!

"There's no bullying here"
Bullying happens in every school. The good schools deal with it fast, firm and fair. Bad schools deny it, ignore it, justify it, rationalise it or handle it all wrong. Every school in the UK is required by law to have an anti-bullying policy. If you'd like to know your rights in this area...
